One Small Sandwich. One Very Big God.

Thousands of people. One hungry crowd. And one small boy with a sandwich to share.

It sounds like an unlikely story — and that is exactly the point. Because when Jesus takes that little lunch and feeds a multitude, he is doing something that no one else could do. And when the amazed crowd wants to make him their King, Jesus points them — and us — to something far greater than a full stomach.

The Boy Who Shared His Sandwich is a warm, beautifully written retelling of the feeding of the five thousand from John chapter 6, crafted especially for young children by Steph Williams. Part of the beloved Little Me, Big God series from The Good Book Company, this picture storybook helps pre-schoolers discover one of Jesus's most extraordinary miracles — and the even more extraordinary thing he said after it.

More Than a Miracle — A Message

Many children's Bible storybooks stop at the wonder of the miracle. Five thousand people fed from five loaves and two fish — what a story! And it is a wonderful story. But The Boy Who Shared His Sandwich goes further, following the biblical account all the way to Jesus's remarkable words in John 6:

"You're just thinking about getting your dinner, which is all finished now. I've come to give you something that's never finished and always enough!"

In language that even the youngest children can grasp, Williams gently opens up the truth at the heart of John 6: that Jesus did not come merely to fill empty stomachs. He came to give life — life that lasts forever, life that never runs out, life that satisfies in a way that no sandwich ever could.

This is gospel truth, faithfully retold for little hearts and ears.

Helpful Notes for Parents

Recognising that these deep truths invite questions — and that parents and carers want to answer them well — the book includes notes at the back specifically written for grown-ups. These notes help explain what Jesus says about himself in John 6:26–27 and 35, giving parents the context and confidence to talk with their children about the meaning of the miracle and the identity of the one who performed it.

This thoughtful feature makes the book not just a bedtime story but a genuine discipleship tool — a conversation starter between parent and child about who Jesus is and what he offers.
