From the very first pages of Scripture to the very last, one truth runs through every story, every character, every turn of the narrative, every moment of triumph and every moment of failure:
God makes promises. And God keeps them.
He promised to send a rescuer when everything first went wrong in the garden. He promised Abraham a son and a people and a land when Abraham had none of these things. He promised David a king from his line whose throne would last forever. He promised his people a new heart and a new covenant and a new creation. And he kept every promise — in the person of Jesus Christ, who is himself the yes and amen to every promise God has ever made.
That is the one big story of the Bible. And God's Big Promises Bible Storybook is a beautifully illustrated, faithfully told, and genuinely gospel-centred introduction to that story for children aged 2 to 6 — spanning over 400 pages of warmly illustrated narrative, 92 carefully selected Bible stories from both the Old and New Testaments, and five promise themes that run through the whole collection, helping even the youngest children begin to see the Bible not as a collection of disconnected tales but as one unified story about the God who always keeps his word.
The most important thing to understand about God's Big Promises Bible Storybook is not the number of stories it contains — impressive as 92 stories across 400 pages is for a children's Bible in this age range. It is the way those stories are connected.
Most children's Bibles present Bible stories as individual, self-contained narratives — each with its own lesson, its own moral, its own application, standing more or less independently of the stories around it. This approach has its merits. But it misses the most important thing about the Bible: that it is one story, not many. That every individual narrative — from Noah and the Ark to the parable of the prodigal son — is a chapter in a single, unified, brilliantly coherent narrative that moves from creation through fall through redemption to new creation, with the promises of God as the thread that holds it all together.
God's Big Promises Bible Storybook is built on exactly this understanding. The 92 stories are not presented as independent moral tales. They are woven together to reveal the overarching narrative of Scripture — God's unwavering commitment to redeem his people, expressed through a series of promises that build on one another, that point forward to their fulfilment in Christ, and that together constitute the most extraordinary story of love and faithfulness that has ever been told.
Children who grow up with this book are being given something far more valuable than a collection of Bible facts. They are being given a framework — a whole-Bible understanding of what God is doing in the world — that will serve them for a lifetime of Scripture reading and Christian living.
One of the most distinctive and most practically useful features of God's Big Promises Bible Storybook is its use of five promise themes — identified by bright, visually distinctive icons throughout the book — that help children track the running threads of God's promises across the whole of the biblical narrative.
These five themes are not artificial categories imposed on the text from outside. They are the genuine, biblically groted promise-threads that run through Scripture itself — the recurring patterns of divine commitment that build across the Testaments and find their ultimate fulfilment in Christ:
The Promise of a Rescuer From the very first promise in Genesis 3 — the seed of the woman who will crush the serpent's head — through the great messianic prophecies of the Old Testament, to the arrival of Jesus in the New Testament, the promise of a rescuer runs through the whole of the biblical narrative as its central, animating hope. Every time children see this icon, they are being reminded that every story is part of the story of the one who was always coming.
The Promise of a People God's promise to Abraham — that he would make him the father of a great nation through whom all the families of the earth would be blessed — is one of the most foundational promises in all of Scripture. It is fulfilled not just in the nation of Israel but in the church — the community gathered from every nation and tribe and tongue who are the true children of Abraham by faith in Christ. Children who track this theme across the Bible's stories are developing an understanding of the church as the fulfilment of God's ancient covenant purposes.
The Promise of a Place The land promise to Abraham, the promised land of Canaan, the temple as the place where God dwells with his people, the new Jerusalem of Revelation — the promise of a place where God and his people will dwell together runs through the whole of Scripture and finds its ultimate fulfilment in the new creation. Children who track this theme are developing an eschatological hope — an understanding of where the whole story is going — from the very earliest years.
The Promise of Blessing God's promise of blessing — the commitment to do good to his people, to provide for them, to care for them, to make his face shine upon them — runs through every covenant and every story of the Bible. Children who track this theme are developing a deep, personal sense of the goodness and the generosity of the God who keeps his promises.
The Promise of God's Presence Perhaps the most personally significant of the five themes — the promise that God himself will be with his people, that he will not abandon them, that he will walk with them through every difficulty and every darkness — runs from the garden through the tabernacle through the incarnation through the gift of the Spirit through the new creation, where God himself will dwell with his people and be their God forever.
One of the great strengths of God's Big Promises Bible Storybook is its willingness to go beyond the handful of most familiar Bible stories that dominate most children's Bibles — while still including the beloved classics that every child should know.
Children will encounter the familiar stories they love: Noah and the Ark, the story of Moses and the exodus, David and Goliath, the birth of Jesus, the feeding of the five thousand, the resurrection. These stories are told with the warmth, the faithfulness, and the clarity that children need and deserve.
But they will also encounter stories they may never have heard before — stories like Jacob and Esau, Rahab and the spies, the calling of Samuel, the story of Naomi and Ruth, the ministry of Elisha, the return of the exiles from Babylon. These lesser-known stories are not footnotes to the biblical narrative — they are essential chapters in the one big story that God is telling. And children who know them have a richer, more complete, more genuinely biblical understanding of what that story is than children who know only the most commonly told accounts.
Together, the familiar and the unfamiliar stories create a genuinely comprehensive encounter with the whole of Scripture — one that gives children the full sweep of the biblical narrative rather than a highlights reel of its most dramatic moments.
God's Big Promises Bible Storybook is ideal for:
The years from 2 to 6 are among the most formative in a child's entire life. The stories they hear in those years, the images that shape their imagination, the foundational convictions that begin to form in their earliest understanding of the world — all of these leave impressions that are extraordinarily deep and extraordinarily durable.
God's Big Promises Bible Storybook is designed to make the most of those years — to plant in young hearts and minds the seeds of a genuine, whole-Bible, promise-rooted understanding of the God who made them and loves them, that will grow and deepen and bear fruit across an entire lifetime of Christian faith and Christian living.
It is, in the best possible sense, a trusted starting point. Not the end of a child's encounter with Scripture — but the beginning of a love for God's Word that, once planted in these earliest years, has the potential to shape everything that follows.
