Weird Visions. Bizarre Performances. Blood-Curdling Judgements. And One of the Most Important Messages in the Bible.
Be honest. When you think of Ezekiel, what comes to mind? Forty-eight chapters of strange visions, unusual street theatre, and imagery so vivid it can feel almost incomprehensible. Perhaps you have always meant to study it — and never quite got around to it. Perhaps it has always felt too long, too strange, or too far removed from everyday life to be worth the effort.
Tim Chester is here to change your mind.
In Ezekiel: The God of Glory, Chester takes readers on a clear, engaging, and genuinely exciting whistle-stop tour through the whole of Ezekiel — in just six sessions. By focusing on the key passages that explain the surrounding chapters, he gives readers a clear overview of all the main themes of Ezekiel's prophecy: God's glory, his judgement, and the stunning hope he promises to his exiled people.
But more than that, Chester shows how God's Word to his exiled people is truly fulfilled in the gospel of Jesus Christ and in the experience of Christians today. The repeated refrain of Ezekiel — Then they will know that I am the Lord — is not just ancient history. In a world of false hopes that will ultimately fail, it is a message for everyone.
What This Book Covers
Tim Chester works through the whole of Ezekiel in six carefully structured studies:
- God's glory — The breathtaking opening vision of Ezekiel — God's glory appearing to his exiled people — and what it means for how we understand God and his purposes
- God's judgement on Jerusalem — Why God withdrew his glory from the temple and allowed Jerusalem to fall — and the serious, searching lessons this holds for God's people today
- God's judgement on the nations — How Ezekiel's oracles against surrounding nations reveal the universal scope of God's justice and sovereignty
- Hope for God's people — The extraordinary promises of restoration God makes to his exiled people — and how they sustain hope in the darkest of circumstances
- The valley of dry bones — One of the most vivid and famous passages in all of Scripture — and what it means for the resurrection hope of God's people
- The new temple and the return of glory — Ezekiel's vision of a restored temple, a river of life, and the return of God's glory — and how it is fulfilled in Jesus and the new creation
- Fulfilment in the gospel — How every major theme of Ezekiel — glory, judgement, restoration, and new life — finds its ultimate fulfilment in Jesus Christ
