Part of – Minor Prophets Series
Too many Christians — young and old — skip over the Minor Prophets. They feel distant, unfamiliar, and hard to understand. But the Minor Prophets are not minor in importance. They are packed with truth about God's character, his people's calling, and the coming of his promised King.
Haggai's Feast makes one of those prophets — Haggai — accessible, engaging, and genuinely exciting for children aged 4–10. Written by Dr. Brian J. Wright and Pastor John Robert Brown, and beautifully illustrated by Lisa Flanagan, this is Book 4 in the God's Daring Dozen series from Christian Focus Publications — a pioneering collection that brings the twelve Minor Prophets to life for young readers for the very first time in storybook form.
The story begins after one of the most difficult chapters in Israel's history. God's people have returned from exile in Babylon. They are back in the land. But the temple — the place where God had said he would dwell among his people — is still in ruins. And the people have settled for a comfortable compromise: building their own houses while God's house remains a pile of rubble.
Into this situation, God sends Haggai. His message is urgent, clear, and personal: Get up. Rebuild my house. Put me first. And remarkably — the people listen. Under the leadership of Zerubbabel and Joshua, they get to work. And God is with them.
But Haggai's message does not end with a building project. It ends with a promise: one day God's Forever King will come. His name is Jesus. And everything Haggai was pointing to finds its fulfilment in him.
One of the great strengths of Haggai's Feast is the care with which Wright and Brown connect Haggai's prophecy to the person and work of Jesus Christ. This is not merely a history lesson about a prophet who encouraged people to rebuild a wall. It is a window into the unfolding story of redemption — God working through his people, calling them back to himself, and ultimately sending his own Son as the true and final temple, the Forever King who makes all things new.
Children who read this book do not just learn about Haggai. They learn to read the whole Bible as one connected story — and they encounter Jesus in one of the Old Testament's lesser-known but richly rewarding books.
At the heart of the book is a truth worth memorising:
"God's blessings make us happy, His presence makes us strong. And when the Lord returns to us, He will right whatever is wrong!"
This beautifully crafted couplet captures the essence of Haggai's message in language that children can learn, repeat, and carry with them — a rhythm of truth that lodges in young hearts and stays there.
"Open this book and see the clear and simple truths that Brian and John share from this not so minor prophet. God's Forever King is coming — his name is Jesus!" — Barbara Reaoch, former director, Children's Division of Bible Study Fellowship International
"Too many people miss out on the rich truths of the Minor Prophets. Haggai's Feast is a rich resource for families. They carefully uncover the ancient context while bringing it forward to our day in ways our children can understand." — Bruce Ware, Professor of Christian Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
"The entire Bible, even the section called the Minor Prophets, is relevant for God's people, including children." — Endorser, God's Daring Dozen series
